Handicap Accessibility

Ramps are available to get to and from all locations within the grounds at Nuestra Cabaña. These routes may be longer and not as direct as the routes with stairs, but are available for those that need no stairs. There is handicap accessibility in one dorm with an accessible ramp to the bathroom with shower. Please let the trip coordinator know on your reservation if you are not able to take any stairs and need an accessible dormitory. There are 1-2 stairs from dormitories into the bathrooms.

How to Dress:

Wear our group neckerchief always; especially when arriving (put it on before you arrive). Remember there will be lots of photos and we need to represent in the photos. 🙂

Wear your uniform during specified times. Some folks in our group have WAGGGS uniform pieces in addition to our national uniform. All uniforms are welcome.

If you don’t have a full official uniform, a white or navy shirt and navy (or dark colored) pants/skirt with a combination of uniform pins, CO global neckerchief, and any other uniform parts you have will work well.

When not in uniform, consider other GS branded clothes you have or smart (Colorado) casual… avoid short shorts, baggy t-shirts, and un-modest outfits.

Handy Hints for Your First Trip and Stay at Nuestra Cabaña and Mexico

Money Many places, especially market stalls, do not take credit cards or personal checks. Make sure you bring some Mexican Pesos with you or get some at the airport when you arrive (your home bank’s exchange rate may be better than the airport exchange rate). There is an ATM cash machine near Nuestra Cabaña but you will need some Mexican Pesos before you arrive in Cuernavaca.

Nuestra Cabaña has its own souvenir shop (the Trading Post), selling a range of items including patches/badges, pins, clothing and postcards. You can pay by cash (US dollars or pesos) or credit card. Inventory is limited at this time.

Water Do not drink the tap water! At Nuestra Cabaña, you will find many water coolers (including in each dormitory bathroom). Use the water from the water coolers for drinking, brushing your teeth and rinsing your toothbrush.

• Bring a water bottle with you, so that you can fill it at a cooler and keep it with you – by your bed, during the meeting sessions and during outings and service projects.

Toilet Paper and Hand Sanitizer In Mexico, you do not put toilet paper in the toilet! Put it in the bin next to the toilet.

• If you are going on an outing or taking part in a service project off-site, bring some toilet paper or tissues with you, just in case you visit a bathroom that doesn’t have toilet paper.
• Bring a small hand sanitizer with you for use off-site (for example, if a public bathroom doesn’t have soap).

Tipping in Mexico

• At expensive restaurants in tourist resorts, waiters and waitresses are used to American tipping levels (15–20 percent), but elsewhere levels are more like those in Europe (10–15 percent).
